The Amazing Spiderman 2 Review

Oh The Amazing Spiderman 2. The sequel to the reboot of the Spiderman series continues the adventures of everyone's favorite web slinging hero as he takes some of his greatest villains: Electro, Green Goblin, and a Russian cartoon voiced by Paul Giamatti. Also in this movie are several other plot threads that either go nowhere, have little emotional heft, or are left out of the movie.

Now if anyone ever reads this review this week, (or ever) you have probably heard most of what has been said about The Amazing Spiderman 2 or you have said it yourself. Either way I don't care this is my first review on the interwebs so let's get on with the review.

First off, I would like to say that I enjoyed the movie for what it was, I mean they spoiled the majority of the movie in the trailers so I knew what I was in for. The movie does have some exciting action sequences such as the opening battle with not rhino, the battle in Times Square, and the final battle with electro. The action for the most part is well shot, and the cgi is pretty good. However, it is not worth seeing in 3D since it is converted. There are also moments of super slow mo, but they are very few and one of them is actually good. Some other positives about the film are the relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacey. While that had its negative moments, it still brought the film up during the dialogue scenes. Other dialogue scenes with Peter and Aunt May were also well done, but had little to no effect. Andrew Garfield is still great as Spiderman, cracking jokes like the comic book character always does. My final positive for the movie is the setup of the villain Electro, played by Jaime Fox. Even if some of his development was kind of silly, Fox still gave a good performance.

Thus we move on to the nitpicking. Now to start off, I might as well talk about the jumbled story lines of the villains. Now while there were only really two villains in the movie (Rhino only showed up for about four minutes of screen time), there only need to be one, Electro. I liked the way they developed Electro throughout the movie, but it seemed as if he was pushed aside for my story lines and other villains. If the focus had stayed on him, I would have like this movie a lot more probably. Harry Osborn, the Green Goblin, is shoehorned into the movie to do something that happened in the comics that I won't spoil even though you probably know what I'm talking about. The movie still could have had Harry Osborn and have him become the Green Goblin at the end of the movie, or in the next movie, but nope more villains. To briefly talk about Rhino, he should have been left for the extra credit scene. Then of course there are a lot of plot conveniences to help Spiderman on his quest, a tedious on and off romance, and some corny dialogue here and there.

Now while I didn't love this movie, I still thought it was fun at least. The action was exciting, Spiderman's dialogue was hilarious (especially in the opening scene), and there are a few scenes that will probably get an emotion out of you

I bestow upon The Amazing Spiderman 2 a 3/5 something.

Tell me how horrible or amazing my review was in comments or whatever, if anyone ever happens to read this.
